I LOVE all Sumatran coffees, and this coffee is no exception. Strong, balanced, slightly nutty and slightly acidic at the same time, and very satisfying black. Caffeine level is high, as it should be with a Sumatran. If I had only one coffee to drink, this would be a candidate.

Seemed a little weak on the aroma side of things - definitely could taste the earthy tones described on the back of the packet...unfortunately it left a very distinct and bitter aftertaste - not a bad thing if you like that but wasn't what I was looking for...still a pleasant cuppa to have and far from the worst I've had.

Waking up to the aroma of this coffee actually made me get out of bed ahead of the alarm . . . yum! However the depth and intensity of the flavor was a little too strong for our tastes. (I haven't had espresso recently, but this came close.) I ended up mixing it with a lighter roast coffee to make the perfect cup.

I use a simple auto drip in the morning and fire it up as I am taking a shower so that first cup is ready upon exit. I love the smell of coffee, and this has an excellent aroma after grinding, brewing and in my hands. Very smooth...almost perfect on the palate. Reminds me almost of Kona that way. I shared some beans with a friend and was thrilled to hear he had the same experience as me. Ya done good, boys, real good!!

I've tried many different Sumatra coffees over the years, but this is by far the best I've had. The flavor is bold and rich. It isn't bitter or flat like so many others. If you like a deep, rich cup of coffee, this is an excellent choice.

i think starbucks house blend tastes a bit burnt. this has none of the burnt, and is much stronger and richer than Cafe Verona that I usually get. Not nearly as sour as Starbucks Sumatran.

Sumatran's are often mild but I found no lack of flavor in this coffee. It was extremely smooth yet not bland. I found it delicious and I tended to drink more of it than something that might be stronger or fuller. I found it very relaxing in the evening and it's a great coffee for guests.

Good coffee. I'd roast it to a slight oil though to add to the body and give it some more richness. Your dark roast is WAY too dark so don't take it that far. Just to a slight oil.

My only comment so far is about the pointless names that your marketing department has applied to the different types. Sumatran Sunset is the name that comes closest to describing the coffee that is supposed to be in the bag.

I rather enjoyed this Sumatran Sunset, the boldness with the earthly tone to it was a great change. But I also found that you have to be careful in your adjustments of how strong you make it; as it can become bitter if made to strong. Great while enjoying a hot cup on a cold evening, or with a dinner party.

would probably continue your service, the product is good. but I prefer to buy local and have less packaging. (beans in a single bag vs beans delivered in plastic bags, in a box, via plane and then eventually to mailman to my house) convenient yes, but too much extra carbon footprint for the coffee. Already has to get here from halfway around the world. I want to eliminate any further eco-impact, beyond that, if possible.

The aroma and flavor go hand in hand. Most other coffees, whether ground or whole bean, smell great, but the aroma does not transfer over to the taste. This one definitely is very close!

Coffee is supposed to take on the flavor of the ground from which it is grown. This one succeeds. I'm constantly amazed how many people don't like bold flavor, or earthy tones, in their coffee. Indonesian coffees have a much better flavor than their African counterparts. For those who don't like that earthy boldness, try cutting it (blending) with one of the Central American or Mexican beans.

I grind the beans each morning and make a latte. I love the aroma after grinding, and of the espresso. Because it is medium roast, I use 4 shots of espresso to make my lattes, and love them! When I have guests who prefer coffee I brew in an automatic drip. On the rare occasion I am out of milk, I use a single cup pour through method to make coffee for myself, one cup at a time and drink it black.

There are two, well known coffees recognized the world over: Jamaican Blue Mountain and quality Columbian brews. Sumatran coffee is a somehow overlooked alternative that fits somewhere in between the two, and is quite capable of leaving one disinclined to miss one's next cup of a Blue Mountain blend. Sumatran Sunset is an anytime coffee, robust but not overpowering as the coffee house brews typically are. It has a fine finish, and a smooth taste, but is strong enough to satisfy. This is simply great coffee at a price that is very appealing given that I regard its principal competitor as being a cup of Jamaican Blue Mountain, a delicacy that costs on the order of thirty dollars a pound for non-blended beans.

I love the smell of this to wake me up in the morning. It has a wonderful deep taste and is wonderful iced. If you like coffee with a very deep dark flavor this is a good choice for you.

Due to its weak flavor, we add it to our regualar brand coffee...half and half works best for this one, but we like it as it definitely enhances the flavor of our regular brand coffee.

I have been a Boca Java Connoisseur Club member for a number of years. At the beginning, we experimented with various roasts. All were good, but none were so outstanding as to capture our complete loyalty. Then came the Indonesian coffees and roasts. We tried all of those and settled upon Monsoon Malabar Mystique, purchasing it exclusively for several years. When, to our dismay it was discontinued a few months ago, we returned to Sumatran Sunset have not at all been disappointed. Like Monsoon Malabar, it is a rich dark roast that is especially satisfying day or evening. Never bitter, we never become bored with it. Its dark beans glistening with oil issue forth in a piquant aroma, creating a sensuous cup of coffee that is bold yet smooth, reminiscent of the mysterious and inviting beauties of the Far East.

I prefer the darker beans. Only negative is Sumatra is an oily bean and the bur grinder needs cleaning a little more often. The flavor is worth the extra effort.

This coffee is a medium/dark blend with a very rich flavor. I love Boca Java because their coffees are very strong, but smooth - not bitter. I'm hooked!!!

One of my favorites. This is the substitute for a coffe that I REALLY enjoyed, Monsoon Malibar, which alas has been discontinued. However, I do like this coffee and look forward to its arvrival each month.

If you like bold dark roast you'll love this. It smells and tastes wonderful where some of the flavored coffees smell better than they taste this one is fantastic.
