About the Origin:
The municipality of Concepcion Huista in the Huehuetenango Region of the Sierra de los Cuchumatanes Mountain Range produces some of the best high grown coffees in all of Guatemala. Grown extreme elevations, this high altitude microlot coffee creates distinctive and memorable cup characteristics from the unique microclimates present at high altitude. In 2009, the CODECH COOP began a separating the larger coffee lots by attitude and cultivars. The region quickly flourished with their unique coffee offerings. Prized for its full-bodied chocolatey and fruity notes, this microlot coffee is sure to please your palate.
From Fair Trade, USA:The Coordinadora de Organizaciones de Desar Concepcion Huista (CODECH) is an organization uniting seven coffee cooperatives in the remote, mountainous highlands of western Guatemala. In this isolated region, access to education and healthcare is limited, and, in 2000, a group of small farmers founded the organization to promote socio-economic development for their communities. Today, CODECH uses their premiums to fund an organic soil program, a health program, and for gender education. Recently, a group of women within the coop formed a womens group to address gender inequality in their communities. Their most cherished goal is to earn enough money to fund their childrens education boys and girls alike.
